A finely enamelled famille rose cup and cover with Zhang Guolao seated on a donkey, further decorated to the reverse with pagodas amongst stylized clouds and a crane in flight. The lid decorated similarly. All against a white sgraffito ground.
With a life expectancy of more than 20 years, cranes symbolise longevity. The Chinese word for crane, he, sounds similar to the word for ‘harmony’.
The bowl and cover are painted with an iron red Daoguang seal mark and are of the period.
Size: Approx 9 cm high
