Asian Antiques Appraisals And Valuations

FAQs – Chinese Antique Appraisals & Valuations Online

Do you possess a piece of Chinese porcelain or a Chinese work of art that you would like to know more about?

There are other Chinese antique valuation and authentication services charging less than the service offered by Irv Graham. But Chinese antiques being what they are, it’s imperative a good valuer has a sharp eye, hands-on experience along with in-depth knowledge and up-to-date research material.

Irv Graham will not undertake any valuation unless he is 100% sure he can deliver to each customer a valuation report that is guaranteed accurate and to which he will personally stand by.

It is imperative when looking at Chinese works of art that a correct appraisal is conducted, as incorrect information can be very, very costly to you the customer.

Our valuation and appraisals service will answer the following important questions on your behalf.

  • How old is your item?
  • Is your item imperial?
  • Where was your item made?
  • How much are similar items selling for at auction?

How long does authentication take?

I ask for 48 hours when you purchase a Chinese antique valuation, but the majority of authentications take no more than an hour or two as most items I see are fairly obvious.

But I do sometimes see pieces that are potentially rare & unusual and will obviously require in-depth research. This may take more time – advice will be given on a case by case basis.

Will you tell me how much my piece is worth?

Yes, but first your piece needs to be appraised before it can be valued.

An expert has already told me my piece is a later copy! What do you advise?

Always get as many opinions as you can as no one really knows it all. An expert can be strong in Chinese works of art and weak in Chinese porcelain, or vice versa.

Do you authenticate all Chinese pottery & porcelain?

No, pottery from early periods such as Tang dynasty pieces, etc., we recommend a Thermoluminescence Test.
